Guys, if we’re going to be real about this, we can easily argue that Gruden is a victim in all this. Yeah, damn right, a victim.
He was sold a bill of goods that didn’t exist.
When he signed on he had no idea Reggie had already alienated Mack and the fucker was intent on working his way out of the organization. Gruden thought he had a hung-ho pass-rushing stud who would be here for the next 5 years crushing QB skulls. Remember, Gruden couldn’t even TALK to any of these fuckin guys.
So Reggie tells him the Mack deal’s in the bag, because Reggie’s too stupid to know what’s going on w his own players and he thinks all it takes is the right amount of money. So Gruden’s stoked.
Then he finds out what Mack REALLY thinks of this org, probably goes home and breaks all his fucking dishes throwing them against the wall. Now he knows trying to sign Mack is going to be nothing but hellish distraction and terrible press for the Raiders and cuts his losses, and now Gruden gets to take all the heat for Reggie’s abject stupidity. Of course nobody knows what’s actually going on, they think Gruden just willingly traded away the best defender in the league when his hand was hard-core forced.
Then he gets the rest of the losers on the field and figures out that Reggie literally has no idea what he’s doing, and is the worst talent evaluator in the league.
But worse than that, he finds out that his locker room is fucking upside-down, run by militant fuckheads like Donald Penn instead of Carr. And he starts to get the picture from Mark about why that is, Mark finally let’s him know about all the kneeling bullshit and he the o-line let Carr get fucking crushed and the entire team is now a dumpster fire and it’s up to him to fix it.
But by then, of course, the draft and FA are over with so Gruden can’t do much to fix the train wreck he’s been saddled with.
So now he knows he had to blow this shit up and start over. At this point he probably figures he needs to start with a new QB, unless he knows something about Carr that we don’t.
He’s going to have to get rid of everyone on the interior OL if he wants to cut the toxicity out of the team. That’s a fucking nightmare scenario right there.
BETTER be a playoff win in 2022.
