In Talks with Rashaan Melvin

This is the best DB without a big name. He held Antonio Brown to 2 catches for 16 yards. Brown did get a 32 yarder on a busted play. But he’s better than any of the guys we had on the field last year, and will be solid opposite Conley. Ranked 17 by PFF last year.

We need to sign him and draft a DB somewhere in the first 3 rounds.

At least we are trying to address the DB position with the best available candidates. No way to be able to afford Johnson or Butler at 15 and 12 mil per year. Melvin will be in for a visit on Friday. Encouraging news. This guy is a starter.

Gruden obviously is doing his homework and watching film because Reggie is too fuckin dumb to find value on defense.

Well... I did say Reggie has been reigned in as a bean counter and director of scouting. He doesn’t have GM powers any more. Just serve up the food and Gruden will decide what he wants to eat.

Gruden wouldn't have taken the job if he knew the big ugly mumbling gorilla was going to have last say and Mark knew that.

Correct. He took the job because $100 million over 10 years gives him the power to create his own roster. Hence, Reggie’s days of hit and miss are done. If the hits and misses come going forward, it’s on Gruden. Hopefully, there are more hits and less misses. FA and the draft are a crap shoot, but the positions of need are not. Leaving us without a legit MLB for his entire tenure, having been a LB himself, is inexcusable. Gruden already has proven he’s not going to repeat that.
