It’s actually less than 19 million. The cap number is anywhere from 30-60 percent of the average annual salary of the contract. Ellis signed a 3 year 15mil contract not included in the 19 mil cap number. If it’s on the low end, he counts for 4.5 mil this year. That puts us at 14.5 if that is the correct number. The rookie pool is approximately 9.2 mil this year. That’s a guessimation. That lists the available money to resign and sign FAs at 5.3 mil before cuts and restructures.
If you cut Smith 8.5, Lunch 6, Crabtree 7.7, cook 5.6 that gets you 27.8 and 5.3 for a total of 32.1 million. You have that to work with. TJ Carrie is projected to be about 6.5 mil. If Carrie is 6.5 mil, and he sucks... what will Trumain Johnson cost? Or any other top tier FA? That is IF we cut all our big payroll guys. We can get another 17 or so if we cut Penn and Irvin. That’s 5 starters before you address the holes we have. So if you think our Cap is plenty or will grow enough to compete with the 13 teams ahead of us, and that’s before they do their cuts, you will be sadly disappointed.
We may get a shot at 1 top tier guy, Johnson. If we do, it will eat up half our budget. And we still have to replace the guys we cut and the guys who are URFA. We will not be a big player in FA.
