Colin Kaepernick has been linked to almost any team who at some point needed a backup quarterback in 2017. Now, the idea that he may be on Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders' radar is being put it out there.
No, the Raiders obviously don't need a starting quarterback, but 2017 backup EJ Manuel is currently set to become a free agent, so the door is open for Gruden to bring in a new face, should he choose to. And as Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle reported, there are many reasons why Kaepernick to the Raiders could make sense, including the following:
Kaepernick is in super shape, eager to play football, and Oakland is a perfect fit — the city and the team.
Gruden’s too busy with football to worry about politics, and he’s too cocky to believe that a little media attention on Kaepernick would derail the Gruden Train.
He wrapped things up with one simple statement: "Don’t think Gruden’s not mulling this over."
Realistically, it doesn't seem out of the question that the Raiders and Gruden specifically could be considering Kaepernick. With that said, we'll have to play the waiting game on potentially hearing from Gruden about this, because he and the rest of the coaching staff have plenty of other things to focus on currently.
