Can safeties save our asses on defense?

I think everyone here will say that Karl Joseph looks solid out there. From all accounts, Shalom Luani has looked possibly even better than Joseph.

Reggie Nelson looks old and slow, but Melifonwu is getting on the field now and I have a ton of faith in that kid.

Question is: Can we use those 2 SSs as enforcers over the middle? Opponents are going to roll out the same battle plans this year as they did last year: Own the short and intermediate middle with TEs and backs who can catch. Do our safeties have enough thumping power to minimize our lack of skill and experience at MLB?

I seriously doubt it, but I just read an article heaping a lot of praise on our safety unit, so I'm willing to entertain the thought that one of our defensive coaches will be able to come up with a personnel package that might work.

No fucking way. No way we can rely on Carr again. All Reggie needed to do was get a defense that's not historically bad! Just average. That's it. Instead Jared Goff, and insert name of shitty QB and they lit us up!! Carr is not Fuckn Superman. Doesn't matter anyway did you see NE vs DET? Brady vs our defense? Lololol

Our back end is suspect especially when our front lets the opposing QB stand like a statue for five seconds surveying the field and completing passes at will. Pass interferences and defensive holds are a huge problem with our secondary and has been for years. Refs have the magnifying glass out throwing the yellow too many times for my liking. We have to lead the league in defensive holds and PI's which is bullshit.

I like our safeties also, but Obi may take all of this year to learn how to play in the NFL. Love his size and will be used some to match up with taller WR's , but as a whole secondary were just not good yet plain and simple.

We've seen in the past what even 1 good safety could do for us ( woodson) let alone two. That said Karl Joseph has played with intent to hit somebody into next week. He may be the imforcer were hoping for.
I hope Conley turns out to be good asap, cuz we all know it'll be up to Carr and company this year.

Problem is, Reggie thought that Hayden was worth the #3 overall pick if we couldn't trade back. So I'm not really banking much on Conley.

Our Special Teams will take us to the Super Bowl, so stop being negative

Swiss cheese defense and the refs will keep them on the field with phantom hold calls and debatable PI's...most of our games will be over 50 points combined...its a disgrace how subpar this defense is compared to top tier teams in the league
