NAPA, Calif. -- Derek Carr followed Oakland Raiders special teams coach Brad Seely to the podium to speak to the media Wednesday and the playful quarterback had a little fun with the coach.
He said he wants to play on Seely's special teams, even noting that he was quite the special teams ace in a cameo appearance as a middle schooler.
"I [told Seely], 'I'll run down on the kickoff team if you need me,'" Carr said. "I promise the effort will be outstanding, I just don't know about the outcome. The effort will be unprecedented. I offered to run down and hit the wedge."
For Carr, the conversation brought back memories of his early football days.
"My first-ever middle school game, I ran down with the kickoff team and I had two or three tackles," Carr said. "It was honestly one of the most fun things you can do. I think we have some bigger, stronger guys that could do that."
Seely surely appreciates the offer, but don't expect Carr to stray from his day job as quarterback.
