Derek Carr throws a few passes at Raiders practice

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr moved from doing nothing at practice because of an injured right ring finger to taking snaps during practice last week and he took another step toward full participation on Tuesday.

Carr threw a few passes early in the Raiders’ organized team activity before heading back to the sideline to continue his recovery. The Raiders aren’t saying whether that recovery will progress quickly enough for Carr to take part in next week’s minicamp with coach Jack Del Rio saying Carr will do “what he can when he can.”

Del Rio also said that Carr is doing well and left tackle Donald Penn said that there wasn’t much concern about Carr’s limited workload causing problems down the line.

“I have no concern at all,” Penn said. “He knows this offense as well as the offensive coordinator. There are no worries about Derek. He’s still the first person here in the morning, and he’s still making calls in practice. He has a good grasp of the offense. I know what he can do. Derek needs to do what he’s doing. You don’t win games right now. He’ll practice when he’s ready. Like I tell him all the time, there is no rush.”

The Raiders will wrap up OTAs this week, leaving minicamp as their last offseason work before training camp gets underway.
